“I Zoned Out”: Despite Admitting Not Being Hurt, Deontay Wilder Reveals What Happened After He Was Stunned by Joseph Parker in Round 8

Deontay Wilder is back on a loss. The former heavyweight champion had many aspirations going into his last bout against Joseph Parker. However, the New Zealand professional boxer pulled off a massive upset and fetched himself a unanimous decision. Many boxing fans and pundits think that he won all rounds, but his highlight happened to be in the eighth.

During the right round, Parker closed the distance with Wilder and was able to land a flurry of punches. However, Wilder managed to weather the storm and continued the fight. In a recent audio interview with 78SPORTSTV, he reflected on that sequence, and what he had to suggest might shock you. So let’s dive right in.

Deontay Wilder reflects on his last fight and makes a startling claim

Wilder admits that Parker had caught him off guard in the eighth round. In addition, he revealed that he was in a trance when one of Parker’s punches came his way. However, at the same time, ‘The Bronze Bomber,’ does not think that the 31-year-old possesses any significant power, and for the entirety of 12 rounds, he remained unaffected by any of his punches.

Reflecting on these lines, while speaking to 78SPORTSTV, he stated, “He caught me in a dazing moment. I was there. Cuz I knew he was coming for an overhand right which I’d been blocking him all night but I, at some point in the time I went into a fu***ng, I zoned out for one minute. I don’t know what the f**k happened. It’s crazy, and then the punch came but it wasn’t nothing that hurt. It didn’t, none of his punches fade me at all.”

Wilder’s performance was far from impressive, to say the least. However, from his above comments, it can be safely said he was not intimidated by Parker and, more specifically, his power. However, with his third professional defeat, one may wonder, what is next for him? Will he retire? Well, let’s hear it from the man himself.

Retirement or not? Wilder responds

Word in the boxing world is that Wilder might retire. However, according to the former champion, he believes there is still a lot of fight left in him. He claims that he will have a resurgence and his title aspiration prolongs. “I’ve got to find my killer instinct back. I’m too at peace, I’m too happy. When I had that dog in me, nobody had a chance… I will be a two-time heavyweight world champion.”
