GENESIS AND TATE MODERN ANNOUNCE THE OPENING OF THE GENESIS EXHIBITION: DO HO SUH: WALK THE HOUSE

The Tate Modern in London has recently opened its doors to a groundbreaking exhibition in partnership with Genesis. The exhibition, titled “Do Ho Suh: Walk the House”, showcases the work of acclaimed Korean artist Do Ho Suh and presents three decades of his thought-provoking and visually stunning pieces.

Do Ho Suh is known for his unique and captivating installations that explore the themes of identity, memory, and displacement. His works often blur the lines between public and private spaces, inviting viewers to question their own sense of belonging and the notion of home.

The Genesis Exhibition at Tate Modern is a rare opportunity to experience the evolution of Do Ho Suh’s artistic journey. The exhibition features over 30 of his works, including large-scale installations, sculptures, and drawings. Each piece is a reflection of the artist’s personal experiences and memories, making the exhibition a deeply intimate and personal experience for both the artist and the viewers.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the installation “Home within Home within Home within Home within Home”. This life-size replica of the artist’s New York apartment is made entirely out of translucent fabric, creating a ghostly and ethereal effect. As viewers walk through the installation, they are invited to contemplate the idea of home and how it can be both a physical and emotional space.

Another notable piece is “Corridor and Staircase”, a sculpture made of stainless steel and glass that resembles a traditional Korean house. The intricate details and delicate craftsmanship of the piece are a testament to Do Ho Suh’s skill as an artist. The sculpture also serves as a metaphor for the artist’s own journey from his childhood home in South Korea to his current home in London.

The Genesis Exhibition also includes a series of drawings titled “Rubbing/Loving”. These drawings are created by rubbing paper against the walls and floors of different spaces, capturing the texture and details of each surface. Through this process, Do Ho Suh creates a physical connection with the spaces he has inhabited, blurring the boundaries between his own body and the surrounding environment.

The exhibition also features a new installation created specifically for the Tate Modern. Titled “Passage/s”, this piece is a series of translucent fabric tunnels that viewers can walk through. The tunnels are inspired by the artist’s memories of the narrow alleyways and passageways in his hometown of Seoul, South Korea. As viewers navigate through the tunnels, they are encouraged to reflect on their own memories and experiences of navigating through different spaces.

The Genesis Exhibition at Tate Modern not only showcases the talent and creativity of Do Ho Suh but also highlights the importance of partnerships between art institutions and corporations. Genesis, a global luxury automotive brand, has been a strong supporter of the arts and has collaborated with various institutions to promote and support emerging artists.

The exhibition is a testament to the power of art to transcend cultural boundaries and connect people from different backgrounds. Do Ho Suh’s work invites viewers to contemplate their own sense of self and the spaces they inhabit, making the exhibition a thought-provoking and immersive experience.

The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House is a must-see for art lovers and anyone interested in exploring the complexities of identity and home. The exhibition will be on display at the Tate Modern until September 2021, so don’t miss the chance to experience the mesmerizing world of Do Ho Suh’s art.
