Justin Gaethje Reveals Bold Plans if He Wins Interim UFC Lightweight Title
Justin Gaethje, the former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) Lightweight Champion, is on a mission to become the undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. And with his recent impressive performances inside the Octagon, it seems like he is well on his way to achieving that goal.
Gaethje is set to face Tony Ferguson for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 324 on May 9th. And if he emerges victorious, the 31-year-old has some ambitious plans for his future in the UFC.
In a recent interview with Heavy Sports, Gaethje laid out his bold plans if he captures the interim lightweight championship at UFC 324.
First and foremost, Gaethje wants to solidify his position as the best lightweight in the world. He believes that winning the interim title will prove that he is the top dog in the division and will give him the opportunity to prove it against the current lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“I want to be the undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. That has been my goal since I started fighting in the UFC. And beating Tony Ferguson and winning the interim title will prove that I am the best lightweight in the world,” said Gaethje.
But Gaethje’s plans don’t stop there. The Arizona native also wants to make history by becoming the first fighter to hold both the UFC and WSOF lightweight titles.
“I want to make history by becoming the first fighter to hold both the UFC and WSOF lightweight titles. It’s a goal that I have set for myself and I believe I have the skills and determination to achieve it,” said Gaethje.
Gaethje also has his sights set on a potential super fight with the undefeated UFC Lightweight Champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two have been linked to a potential showdown for quite some time, and Gaethje believes that it is a fight that the fans want to see.
“I know Khabib is the current champion and he has a fight lined up with Tony Ferguson, but I believe that a fight between me and him would be one of the biggest fights in UFC history. And I am more than ready to take on the challenge,” said Gaethje.
But it’s not just about winning titles and making history for Gaethje. He also wants to use his platform as a UFC fighter to inspire and motivate others.
“I want to be a role model for young fighters and show them that anything is possible with hard work and dedication. I also want to use my platform to spread awareness about mental health and the importance of taking care of our mental well-being,” said Gaethje.
Gaethje’s plans may seem ambitious, but it’s clear that he is determined to make them a reality. And with his impressive record of 21 wins and only 2 losses, it’s hard to doubt his abilities.
But first, Gaethje has to get past Tony Ferguson at UFC 324. And if his recent performances are anything to go by, he is more than capable of doing so.
So mark your calendars for May 9th, as Justin Gaethje looks to make a statement and pave his way towards greatness by capturing the interim UFC Lightweight Championship. It’s going to be a fight to remember, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented fighter.
