The New York Jets have had a tough start to their season, with a record of 0-3 and many fans calling for a change at the quarterback position. However, head coach Aaron Glenn is not ready to make that change just yet.
Glenn, who is in his first year as head coach of the Jets, understands the frustration of the fans and the desire to see a change. But he believes in his current quarterback, Zach Wilson, and is confident in his abilities to lead the team to success.
Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has had a rough start to his rookie season. He has thrown 7 interceptions in the first three games, leading to many questioning if he is ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. However, Glenn has faith in Wilson and remains committed to him as the starter.
In a recent press conference, Glenn stated, “Zach is our quarterback. He is a talented young player with a bright future in this league. We are not going to give up on him after just three games. We have to trust the process and continue to work with him to improve.”
Glenn’s decision to stick with Wilson is a gutsy one, but it shows his confidence in the young quarterback. He is not afraid to take risks and believes in giving players a chance to prove themselves.
Many have compared Wilson’s struggles to that of former Jets quarterback, Sam Darnold. Darnold was also a highly touted prospect but struggled in his first few years with the Jets before being traded to the Carolina Panthers this past offseason. However, Glenn sees Wilson’s situation differently.
“Zach and Sam are two different players. They have their own strengths and weaknesses. We are not going to make the same mistake of giving up on a young quarterback too soon. We believe in Zach and his ability to lead this team,” Glenn explained.
Glenn’s decision to stick with Wilson also speaks to the culture he is trying to build within the Jets organization. He wants to instill a sense of trust and support among his players, and constantly changing quarterbacks does not align with that mindset.
“We are a team, and we win and lose as a team. We are going to stick together and work through these tough times. That includes standing by our quarterback,” said Glenn.
The Jets’ upcoming schedule is not an easy one, with games against tough opponents like the Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots. But Glenn is not wavering in his decision to keep Wilson as the starter.
“We have a tough road ahead, but I have faith in this team and in Zach. He has shown great potential, and I know he can turn things around. We just have to stay the course and keep working hard,” Glenn stated.
Glenn’s support for Wilson has also been echoed by his teammates. Wide receiver Corey Davis, who has developed a strong connection with Wilson on the field, said, “Zach is our guy. We believe in him, and we are going to do everything we can to help him succeed. I have no doubt he will bounce back and lead us to victory.”
The Jets may be off to a rough start, but with a coach like Aaron Glenn at the helm, there is still hope for a successful season. Glenn’s decision to stick with Wilson shows his leadership and determination to turn the team around. As the season progresses, it will be exciting to see how Wilson and the Jets respond to the challenges they face. But one thing is for sure, Aaron Glenn is not giving up on his quarterback just yet.
