No. 18 USC’s Jazzy Davidson heads list of potential impact freshmen in women’s college basketball

The University of Southern California’s football team, the Trojans, have always been known for their star power and talented players. And even though they will be without their star player, JuJu Watkins, for the upcoming season, there is no doubt that the Trojans will continue to shine on the field.

Watkins, who was named the Associated Press 2024-25 player of the year, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a practice session earlier this year. This unfortunate injury has forced him to sit out the entire season in order to recover and come back stronger for the next season. While this news may have disappointed many USC fans, it is important to remember that the Trojans are a team and not just one player.

Yes, Watkins is an exceptional player and his absence will be felt on the field. But the Trojans have a deep and talented roster that is more than capable of filling in the gap left by Watkins. They have a strong group of players who have been working hard during the off-season and are ready to step up and make their mark on the field.

One such player is sophomore quarterback, Kaden Slovis. Slovis had an impressive freshman season, throwing for 3,502 yards and 30 touchdowns. He has shown great potential and with Watkins out, he will have the opportunity to lead the Trojans’ offense and showcase his skills. Slovis will have a talented group of receivers to throw to, including Drake London and Bru McCoy, who are both expected to have breakout seasons.

On the defensive side, the Trojans will be led by senior linebacker, Drake Jackson. Jackson is a force to be reckoned with on the field and has the ability to disrupt any offense. He will be joined by a strong defensive line, including Tuli Tuipulotu and Nick Figueroa, who will make it difficult for opposing teams to score.

But it’s not just the returning players who will make an impact for the Trojans this season. USC has also recruited a talented group of freshmen who are eager to make their mark on the team. One player to watch out for is running back, Brandon Campbell, who has already been turning heads during practice with his speed and agility.

Head coach, Clay Helton, has expressed his confidence in the team and their ability to perform without Watkins. He believes that this season will be a great opportunity for other players to step up and showcase their talents. And with a strong coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Graham Harrell and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando, the Trojans are in good hands.

It’s also important to note that Watkins will still be a part of the team, even though he won’t be on the field. He will continue to support his teammates and provide guidance and motivation from the sidelines. His presence and leadership will be invaluable to the team, especially the younger players.

Injuries are a part of sports and while it’s unfortunate that Watkins won’t be able to play this season, it’s important to focus on the positives. The Trojans have a talented and determined team that is ready to take on any challenge. They have the potential to make this season a successful one and continue the legacy of USC football.

So, to all the USC fans out there, don’t be disheartened by the news of Watkins’ injury. The Trojans are still a team to be reckoned with and they will continue to shine on the field. Let’s show our support and cheer them on as they embark on another exciting season. Fight on, Trojans!
