Green NCAP & CATARC strengthen cooperation in new Working Group & LCA Mutual Recognition Guidelines

LEUVEN, BELGIUM – Today, Green NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) is taking a groundbreaking step towards a greener automotive industry by announcing the formation of the Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Working Group. This initiative will bring together key players in the automotive sector from both China and Europe to collaborate on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices.

The working group, which is an extension of Green NCAP’s existing European program, will focus on establishing a common framework for measuring and recognizing carbon footprint levels in the automotive industry. This framework will be based on the latest international standards and will serve as a benchmark for manufacturers to evaluate their environmental performance.

China and Europe are two of the largest markets for automobiles in the world, and this collaboration between them is a significant step towards creating a global standard for carbon emissions in the industry. With both regions setting ambitious goals for reducing their carbon footprint, it is important for them to work together to achieve these targets.

According to the World Health Organization, air pollution caused by transportation is responsible for millions of deaths each year. By reducing carbon emissions, we can not only improve the health of our planet but also protect the health of its inhabitants. The Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Working Group will play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

The group’s formation is timely as the automotive industry is moving towards electric and hybrid vehicles, which have lower emissions compared to traditional gasoline and diesel cars. By setting a common standard for measuring carbon footprint, the working group will incentivize manufacturers to invest in cleaner and more sustainable technologies.

The working group will also facilitate an exchange of knowledge and best practices between Chinese and European manufacturers, leading to further innovation and progress in reducing carbon emissions. This collaboration has the potential to benefit not just the two regions but the entire global automotive industry.

Green NCAP’s decision to form this working group has received widespread support from industry leaders. Luigi Ridolfi, Chairman of the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA), said, “We fully support the formation of the Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Working Group and believe it will be a significant step towards a more sustainable automotive industry.”

The group’s formation was also welcomed by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). “China is committed to reducing its carbon emissions, and we believe this collaboration with Europe will accelerate our efforts towards a greener automotive industry,” said a spokesperson from CAAM.

Green NCAP, which was established in 2017, has already made significant strides in promoting greener vehicles in Europe. Its European program has received praise for its rigorous and transparent testing methods, providing consumers with reliable information about the environmental impact of their vehicles.

With the formation of the Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Working Group, Green NCAP is expanding its reach and impact beyond Europe, setting a precedent for international cooperation in promoting sustainable practices in the automotive industry.

The working group’s first meeting will take place in the coming months, where the members will work towards developing a common framework for measuring and recognizing carbon footprint levels. This framework will then be implemented in both China and Europe, setting the stage for a more environmentally friendly automotive industry.

In conclusion, the formation of the Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Working Group is a significant milestone in the automotive industry’s journey towards sustainability. By bringing together key players from both China and Europe, this collaboration has the potential to drive significant progress in reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly practices. The group’s efforts will not only benefit the two regions but the entire world, making the future of the automotive industry a greener and more sustainable one.
