New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. may not plan to stay with Double-A Somerset for long, but he’s making the most of his time there. As he continues his rehab assignment with the Patriots, he’s getting a front row seat to witness a once-in-a-lifetime talent, and he couldn’t be more excited about it.
Chisholm, who has been sidelined with an oblique injury, is determined to make his way back to the Yankees as soon as possible. But until then, he’s taking advantage of his time in Somerset to not only heal his injury, but also to learn and grow as a player.
On Thursday, Chisholm began his rehab assignment with the Patriots and was immediately impressed by what he saw from his teammate, Jasson Dominguez. The 18-year-old outfielder, who is widely considered to be the top prospect in the Yankees’ farm system, has been turning heads with his incredible talent and potential.
Chisholm couldn’t help but rave about Dominguez, saying, “He’s a once-in-a-lifetime talent. You don’t see guys like him come around often. I’m just glad I get to witness it up close and personal.”
Dominguez, who is known as “The Martian” for his out-of-this-world abilities, has already made a name for himself in the minor leagues. In just his first professional season, he has impressed with his speed, power, and overall athleticism. And at just 18 years old, he still has plenty of time to develop and reach his full potential.
But it’s not just his skills on the field that have caught Chisholm’s attention. He also praised Dominguez’s work ethic and maturity, saying, “He’s a special kid. He works hard every day and is always looking to improve. And he handles himself like a pro, even at such a young age.”
Chisholm, who has played in the major leagues with the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks, knows firsthand what it takes to succeed at the highest level. And he believes that Dominguez has all the tools to become a superstar in the majors.
“He’s got all the talent in the world, but what’s most impressive is his mindset. He’s got the drive and determination to be great, and that’s what sets him apart,” Chisholm said.
While Chisholm is eager to return to the Yankees and continue his own journey in the majors, he’s happy to be a mentor to Dominguez and the other young players in Somerset. He understands the importance of having veteran leadership and guidance, and he’s more than willing to provide it.
“I’ve been in their shoes before, trying to make it to the big leagues. So I know how important it is to have someone to look up to and learn from. I’m happy to be that guy for them,” Chisholm shared.
As Chisholm works his way back to full health, he’s also using this time to work on his own game and prepare for his return to the Yankees. And he knows that being surrounded by talented players like Dominguez will only help to improve his own skills.
“I’m learning a lot from these guys, even though I’m the one on a rehab assignment. It’s been a great experience for me, both on and off the field,” Chisholm said.
It’s clear that Chisholm has a lot of respect and admiration for Dominguez, and it’s easy to see why. The young outfielder has all the makings of a future star, and Chisholm is grateful to have a front row seat to witness it all.
As for Chisholm’s own future, only time will tell when he will return to the Yankees. But one thing is for sure, he will be taking with him valuable lessons and memories from his time in Somerset, including his time spent with the one-of-a-kind talent, Jasson Dominguez.
