On June 7, 2024, in the province of Huíla, specifically in Lubango, the ceremony for the handover of the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango took place.
The significant event was attended by João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, as well as Arlindo Carlos, Secretary of State for Energy, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the African Development Bank representative for Angola and São Tomé, various ministry officials, and invited guests.
Following the certificate handover, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedication, which led to this achievement. He also highlighted the broader importance of the event.
Minister João Baptista Borges, in turn, acknowledged the efforts of João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, crediting him for the ceremony’s success. He further stressed the crucial role de-mining plays in realizing the project.
He went on to emphasize that the main objective is to increase energy capacity to meet regional needs. He commended the de-mining efforts, recognizing their importance to the sector and their role in advancing the country’s electrification projects.
Borges also noted that the transmission line connecting Huambo to Lubango will generate employment opportunities for many young people, a key priority for the minister.
Additionally, a symbolic presentation of a vehicle to the de-mining team on-site was conducted.
It’s important to note that the construction of the 400 KV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango will cover a total distance of 343 km, divided into two lots.
