Five days after the official commencement of the presidential pre-campaign, the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) expressed its support for presidential hopeful Claudia Sheinbaum.
At the XV National Ordinary Congress of this labor union, which comprises 1,194 organizations and unions nationwide, the National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the 4T encouraged workers to endorse her candidacy. Speaking at the Arena Ciudad de México, the former head of government pledged to continue advocating for the protection of workers’ wages and benefits.
“I invite everyone to join us in this effort, and I assure Mexican workers that we will persist in safeguarding their wages and labor benefits because we understand that the prosperity of Mexican workers is essential for the well-being of our nation,” she affirmed.
Sheinbaum Pardo also highlighted the increase in the minimum wage, which has tripled in the northern border zone since 2018 and doubled in the rest of the country, accompanied by “historic” foreign direct investment and without causing inflation.
In this context, Pedro Haces Barba, General Secretary of CATEM, recalled the significant labor achievements made during the current government, including union freedom, the abolition of outsourcing, improved profit sharing, and the increase in the minimum wage.
Regarding the latter, the senator urged the business sector to “heed their conscience” and ensure a substantial salary increase for workers in 2024.
“I appeal to entrepreneurs from the bottom of my heart; we hope that this year you listen to your conscience. Paco, don’t act as if you’re unaware. Entrepreneurs should heed their conscience to guarantee a significant salary increase for all Mexicans,” he stressed.
With the establishment of 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation, CATEM committed to endorsing presidential hopeful Claudia Sheinbaum. Pedro Haces Pedro Haces
