Exploring ‘Ndrangheta Realities

The Investigative Journalism Workshop on ‘Ndrangheta Stereotypes and Realities, organized by renowned journalist Claudio La Camera, aims to highlight positive experiences and contexts related to the ‘Ndrangheta, the organized crime organization based in Calabria, Italy. The workshop not only hopes to shed more light on the ‘Ndrangheta, but also gives the participants the tools to better investigate the issue.
La Camera, a journalist with experience investigating the ‘Ndrangheta, was recently the target of a court investigation and faced a possible seizure of personal and professional assets. Despite these allegations, La Camera is ready to help “shed light on an issue that is being silenced as it involves powerful and influential people”.
The workshop consists of several stages: from understanding the environment and phenomenon, to using investigative reporting techniques and researching the stories behind the headlines about ‘Ndrangheta. These techniques involve activities such as learning the story, interviewing, document analysis, verification, data-driven, and multimedia journalism. The participants will also explore various case studies to gain a better understanding of ‘Ndrangheta.

The goal of the workshop is to use the knowledge and skills gained to report on the positive experiences of those who live in the shadows of ‘Ndrangheta, and to show the reality behind the stereotypes.
The participants will also develop their understanding of the practice of investigative journalism, which is becoming increasingly important in today’s society. Not only does it help to uncover the truth, but it can also shed light on the darker aspects of our society, such as organized crime.
By encouraging more people to investigate and report on ‘Ndrangheta, La Camera hopes to lift the veil of secrecy surrounding the organization and to share stories that are often hidden in the shadows. The workshop will provide a platform for journalists to tell stories in a more meaningful way, and to uncover the truth behind the ‘Ndrangheta.
